Teamsters Canada has joined a coalition of trucking industry groups to ask Ottawa to provide fiscal support to drivers and trucking companies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Transport Canada has published safety guidelines to protect drivers and limit the spread of COVID-19. These include making sure vehicle interiors are clean and hygienic and the availability of cleaning materials and hand sanitizer for drivers.

Teamsters Canada is demanding that gas stations and highway rest areas fully re-open to transportation workers and asking federal and provincial governments to pressure them into doing so if necessary.

The drivers’ names were Dennis Kehler and Daniel Kepner. They had been working at company for 28 and 5 years respectively. Both were members of Teamsters Local Union 776.

The president of the Québec Trucking Association (ACQ), Marc Cadieux, gave an interview on Patrick Lagacé’s show last week on 98.5 FM in Montréal regarding truck drivers’ wages. The Teamsters Union, which represents over 5,500 truck driver in the province of Québec, is critical of his positions and line of thinking.
