Laval, April 29, 2025 – Teamsters Canada is congratulating Prime Minister Mark Carney on his election victory. The union is calling on all parties to put workers first amid the ongoing trade dispute.

“The prime minister and all parties promised big results for workers. We expect them to work together and deliver. Now is not the time for political games that delay the help workers urgently need. Parliament must put workers first,” said François Laporte, National President of Teamsters Canada.

Over the past decade, Canadian workers have secured significant victories, including bankruptcy protection for workers’ pensions, 10 paid sick days for federally regulated workers, the repeal of anti-union legislation, affordable childcare, and more. Parliament must build on this progress.

Supporting workers also means supporting unions and respecting Charter rights to collective bargaining. In a time of national crisis, there is no room for corporate greed. Nor is there room for authoritarian union-busting shortcuts.

In the same spirit, Teamsters Canada is urging Parliament to ensure that supports flow to working families first, not rich corporations. Trickle-down economics has never worked, and it won’t work now.

Finally, the union is calling on Parliament to begin expediting the proposed national energy corridor. Teamster members are ready and waiting to get to work building up Canada.

With the election behind us, the real work begins. Teamsters Canada looks forward to working with all parties to advance the interests of Teamster members and all workers.

Teamsters Canada represents close to 135,000 workers in Canada in all industries from coast to coast.
