Montréal, September 12, 2026 – The following statement is attributable to François Laporte, President of Teamsters Canada, and Paul Boucher, President of the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference.

“A railroader left for their shift last night and did not come home. Nothing else matters today.

Our thoughts are with the colleagues and loved ones of the CPKC conductor and Teamsters member who passed last night at the Port of Montréal.

Out of respect for the family, the Teamsters Union will not be releasing the victim’s name or other identifiable information.

The exact circumstances of this tragedy remain unclear. The union is in contact with members. We will press both the government and the rail companies for answers as the investigation unfolds.

To the family and to everyone who knew the victim, know that over 130,000 Teamsters members stand with you in mourning and in solidarity.”

Teamsters Canada represents 130,000 workers across the country, including 16,000 rail workers.
