Laval, November 26, 2022 — The federal government will require professional drivers to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to cross the border with the United States as early as January 15. The U.S. government made the same announcement recently.

Until now, professional drivers have been exempted from the vaccination requirement, while marine, airline and railroad workers were required to be immunized against the virus.

Approximately 120,000 Canadian professional drivers make cross-border trips, while 40,000 U.S.-licensed professional drivers do the same.

The vast majority of Teamsters members who make deliveries south of the border are vaccinated.

The Teamsters Union represents 125,000 members in Canada. They are affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which has 1.4 million members in North America.
