Today is the National Day of Observance in memory of the victims of COVID-19. This sad anniversary is an opportunity to remember all those who died during the pandemic.
Teamsters Canada represents the interests of more than 125,000 workers across the country. Many of them have been directly affected by the loss of a loved one. I would like to extend them my deepest sympathies.
Workers who care for the sick and the elderly have also had to deal with tragedies in their workplaces throughout the pandemic. In hospitals and retirement homes, our members were there in the final moments of countless lives and for grieving families.
Because we love those who left us, because this tragedy touched us and because we have not yet reached the end of our sorrows, we must continue to fight against the silent enemy that is COVID-19 and be more united than ever.
Not to mention, of course, that we must keep hope.
In Solidarity,
François Laporte
President of Teamsters Canada
Vice President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters
