The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference, which represents close to 10,000 workers at CN and CPKC, has taken note of today’s decision from the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) on essential services.

Canadian National (CN) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) rejected a proposal from the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) to stagger negotiations with both companies by two weeks.

The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) and Canadian Pacific (CP) have agreed to final and binding arbitration. In such a process, both parties agree to accept the arbitrator's decision as final.

Despite the best efforts of the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) Negotiating Committee, there will be a lockout tonight at Canadian Pacific (CP). A lockout is a work stoppage initiated by company management during a labour dispute. Unlike a strike, in which employees refuse to work, a lockout is initiated by the employer.

With less than 36 hours to go before the deadline decreed by Canadian Pacific (CP), the Teamsters Union is providing an update on negotiations.
