Passing of Aline Lachapelle, a Pioneer of our Union

I was saddened to learn this week that Sister Aline Lachapelle, former president of Teamsters Local Union 1998, passed away. She was the first woman to become president of a Teamster local union in Canada.

Preventive maternity leave in federal workplaces: A flagrant injustice

In theory, a woman who works in a federally-regulated industry governed by the Canada Labour Code has the right to refuse dangerous work. For example, a pregnant or nursing worker should be able to stop work if she considers that continuing to perform her regular duties may constitute a risk to her health or her baby’s.

And we’re off! The International Brotherhood of Teamsters Women’s Conference began this morning in Montreal, the French-speaking capital of North America. On this morning’s agenda: workshops on bargaining, TITAN, interpreting and enforcing a work contract, and organizing.

Teamsters Women’s Conference Kicks Off in Montreal

The 2019 Teamsters Women’s Conference kicked off today in Montreal. Over 1,200 Teamsters from across North America are in town for the three-day annual event, which provides the opportunity for empowerment and education for women in our union.
