In September 2015, Teamsters Canada launched a national social media campaign called Make It Mandatory to convince Parliament to make mental health awareness and support mandatory in the workplace.

They never asked for money but when we gave there was always some vehicle or wheelchair repair or an outstanding bill that we happened to be just in time to pay. I certainly have not had an in depth conversation with Mary about her means but I am not blind. I know that every penny, borrowed or owned, went towards Jim’s illness, bills and mortgage.

A Canadian National (CN) worker died following a workplace accident this morning in Edmundston, New Brunswick. The victim was a 33-year-old father of two and a member of the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC). He started working at CN in September as a conductor/foreman trainee. His name is not being released at this time.

The latest numbers show that 905 people in Canada died in the workplace in 2016, twenty-six of whom were aged between 15 and 24 years old. That’s on top of hundreds of thousands of workplace injuries, occupational illnesses, and incidents that aren’t even reported.

Teamsters Canada, the country’s largest transportation union, is slamming the Ontario Trucking Association’s (OTA) proposal to bring in foreign workers to fill a shortage of drivers in the trucking industry. They should instead be focusing on significantly improving drivers’ wages and working conditions to attract more people to the profession.
