Laval, QC, July 6, 2026 – Teamsters Canada and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) are relieved that no one was injured after a Canadian National (CN) train derailed on Sunday afternoon in the Le Gardeur sector of Repentigny, Quebec. The TCRC represents the conductor and the locomotive engineer who were operating the train.

“This is an unfortunate event, and we are thankful that our members and the residents of Repentigny are all safe,” said Paul Boucher, President of the TCRC. “We will fully cooperate with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada and look forward to the findings of its investigation.”

The derailment occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 5. Approximately 45 railcars derailed. No dangerous goods were on board, and residents evacuated as a precaution have since returned home. The cause of the derailment remains unknown at this early stage.

“We are glad nobody was hurt. Events like this remind us why we will never stop fighting for stronger rail safety, for workers and for the communities our railways run through,” said François Laporte, President of Teamsters Canada. “We expect the investigation to shed full light on the causes of this derailment.”

Teamsters Canada represents 130,000 workers in all industries across the country, including close to 15,000 in the rail industry. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, with which Teamsters Canada is affiliated, represents 1.4 million workers in North America.
