Sisters,
Brothers,
Friends,

The Teamsters Canada Executive Board just approved a $25,000 donation to the Canadian Red Cross in response to the raging wildfires in Alberta and British Columbia. The executive board also invites Teamster members, local unions and other affiliates to donate to the Canadian Red Cross to support relief efforts.

In Alberta, nearly 90 wildfires were active on Tuesday afternoon in northern and central parts of the province, with 24 considered to be out of control. The smoke that accumulated in the Calgary skies covered the city in a distinct orange haze, described by residents as eerie and apocalyptic. The province remains under a state of emergency with nearly 20,000 people unable to return home and 21 evacuation orders in place.

In British Columbia, nearly 60 fires were active on Tuesday afternoon, with 15 considered to be out of control. According to the province’s Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, there were approximately 5,100 people under an evacuation order as of Monday afternoon, and about 33,000 under an alert.

If we all do our part to help, we can make a real difference. Please give generously.

In solidarity,

François Laporte
