Toronto, April 28, 2024 – Teamsters Local Union 647 today reached a tentative agreement with Gate Gourmet. The agreement must still be ratified by members in a vote to be held tomorrow, Monday, April 29.
The bargaining committee is recommending members vote to accept the agreement.
“After months of bargaining and almost two weeks on the picket line, we are pleased to announce a tentative agreement with Gate Gourmet. I would like to thank our members for their incredible courage and solidarity, and salute everyone who supported us throughout this process. We look forward to sharing the complete details of this agreement with our members over the coming day,” said Martin Cerqua, president, Teamsters Local Union 647.
Details of the agreement are being withheld from the public until members have a chance to review them first.
Voting will take place in the entrance/reception area of Gate Gourmet. Workers will have an opportunity to vote on Monday from 8am to 11am, 3pm to 6pm, and 7pm to 10pm. Results will be announced shortly thereafter.
Should the tentative agreement be ratified, workers will be expected to return to work on Tuesday, April 30, exactly two weeks after the strike first broke out. Picket lines will remain in place until the deal is ratified.
Teamsters Local Union 647 represents approximately 3000 food industry workers across Ontario.
At over 125,000 members, Teamsters Canada is the country’s largest transportation and supply chain union. They are affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which represents over 1.2 million workers in North America.
