Laval, April 11, 2022 – The 60 or so professional drivers at GT Express will benefit from significant wage increases under a letter of agreement signed by the parties.

These workers, affiliated with Teamsters Local Union 106, are moving from a lump sum payment to an hourly rate. The pay will vary between $26 and $27/hour. In addition, overtime will be paid after nine hours of service.

As for truckers who make deliveries in the United States, they get an increase of $0.11/mile (to $0.55/mile) and to $27/hour when on standby. Bonuses have also been negotiated. For example, long combination vehicle (LCV) drivers will get an additional $2 to $3 per hour, depending on the specialized equipment.

In terms of working conditions, GT Express is becoming an industry leader in a context of labour shortage.

The Teamsters Union represents 125,000 members in Canada, of which 15,000 work in road transport. They are affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which has 1.4 million members across North America.
