It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brother Michel Côté, who passed away on June 29, 2024, in Granby, at the age of 71. Michel, a resident of Béthanie, leaves behind his wife Monique Lassonde, his children Michel Jr (Caroline Therrien), Mélanie (Stéphane Piacente), and Jean-Pierre, as well as his grandchildren Mylan, Sophie, and Guilaume. He also leaves behind his brothers Georges, Pierre, Richard, Jean-Paul Jr, and many other family members and friends.
Michel Côté dedicated a significant part of his life to serving the members of our union. He was President of Local Union 41M of the Teamsters Graphic Communications Conference for 24 years, until his retirement on December 31, 2011. His role as President involved representing members from various companies in the printing industry, and was involved in both negotiating and enforcing collective agreements.
Before taking on this role, Michel was a pressman at the “La Presse” newspaper and was already involved in union affairs, notably with regards to substitute members. After his retirement, Michel and Monique moved to Béthanie, where they raised cattle until recently. Always passionate about community engagement, Michel was elected mayor of Béthanie in the last municipal elections.
The funeral will take place on Saturday, August 10, at 12:00 PM at the Lalime & Boisvert Funeral Complex, 1166 Saint-André Street, Acton Vale, J0H 1A0. A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 PM, followed by burial at the Béthanie cemetery. The family will receive condolences starting at noon.
