Laval, March 17, 2022 – Teamsters Local Unions 1999 and 106 have negotiated a letter of agreement to improve the wages set in the current collective agreement for the 200 drivers who work at Kingsway Vrac.

The hourly rate, currently set at $23.70/hour, will be raised to $27.50/hour, an increase of 16%. The hourly rate for mechanical breakdowns and standby duty, currently set at $18.54/hour, will be increased to $20.00/hour, an increase of 8%. The Canadian mileage rate, currently at $0.4472/mile, will be increased to $0.5300/mile, an increase of 19%.

The U.S. mileage rate, currently at $0.5039/mile, will be increased to $0.6000/mile, a 19% increase. The flat rate for deliveries on the island of New York, currently set at $135, will be raised to $150, an increase of 11%.

All in all, these Teamsters are increasing their salaries by $10,000 to $15,000 per year.

“The Teamsters Union continues to make significant progress in workers’ conditions in the trucking industry,” said François Laporte, President of Teamsters Canada. “The leadership we have shown over the years is paying dividends and I am very pleased for the members who are benefiting from this.”

These raises follow a substantial increase already obtained last November for drivers in Amos and Mont-Laurier (chip division). We are talking about between $10,000 and $15,000 more per year for these drivers.

More than 97% of union members who voted electronically on March 5 and 6 ratified the proposed letter of agreement.

“I would like to congratulate the negotiating committee, who played a critical role in this matter,” added Michel Héroux, President of Local Union 1999.

“The members fully deserved this excellent contract, especially since they have been supporting the economy for so long,” concluded Jean Chartrand, President of Local Union 106. »

The Teamsters Union represents 125,000 members in Canada. They are affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which has 1.4 million members in North America.
