Laval, July 13, 2020 – Workers at Jay Plastic Products, whose plant is located in Montreal, ratified a new collective agreementwith their employer on July 10.

The new contract includes a 2.5% wage increase for each of the three years of its term, as well as a $1,000 signing bonus.

These workers, who are represented by Teamsters Local Union 1791, had rejected 100% of the employer’s first offer at a meeting held last July 2.  Subsequently, the employer presented a new proposal that was ratified by 100% of the approximately 15 members present at the meeting.

The previous collective agreement expired on February 2, 2020.

“I would like to congratulate shop steward and Brother René Simard for his good work at the bargaining table,” explained the president of Teamsters Local Union 1791, Chris Ashford. “Our members at Jay Plastic Products fully deserved these better working conditions.”

The Teamsters Union represents the interests of 125,000 members in Canada. They are affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which has 1.4 million members in North America.
