Pact Would Raise Wages, Pensions
Teamsters working at Purolator Courier Ltd. in Canada are voting now on a proposed contract that would raise wages and pensions. Voting began January 19 and will run through January 31.
Teamsters Canada’s Parcel and Small Package Division represents about 8,500 workers at Purolator, making it the Teamsters’ largest single employer in Canada.
Teamsters Canada has represented Purolator workers since 1990, and since that time workers’ pensions, wages and other benefits have improved dramatically. The current, four-year contract expired December 31, 2003.
The top issues in the current campaign are pensions and wages. Other issues include health care, reducing split shifts, job security, improved communication between management and workers and improved vacation time. The 45-member National Negotiating Committee is committed to winning a strong contract.
Teamsters Canada is a labour organization representing more than 110,000 members in Canada alone. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which we are affiliated with, represents 1.5 million members across North America.
