Teamsters Canada President François Laporte, along with International Vice-Presidents Stan Hennessy and Craig McInnes, were acclaimed today at the 30th Teamsters International Convention.
Laporte, McInnes, and Hennessy will serve Teamster members for another five-year mandate, ending in 2027.
François Laporte was first elected President of Teamsters Canada in 2015. With over 30 years’ experience in the Teamsters, his mission continues to be to build a stronger and more united union for members and a better future for workers.
Said Laporte, “Thank you to all our Canadians locals, members, and convention delegates. I am humbled by your support and this incredible display of Canadian unity. It’s an honour to serve you all as we move out of the pandemic. Making sure workers earn a fair wage, enjoy safe working conditions, and are treated with dignity in the workplace remain my top priorities.”
International Vice-Presidents Stan Hennessy and Craig McInnes have also served their union for 30 years. They are the principal officers of Toronto-area Local Union 938 and Vancouver-area Local Union 31, respectively.
Said Hennessy, “Teamsters are one of driving forces behind better working conditions in North America. We have important contract negotiations and organizing campaigns ahead of us across the country. We have to stay united and face these challenges head on.”
Said McInnes, “I am grateful to be able to fight for members in this role. The Teamsters are undoubtedly a major force for good. It’s the honour of a lifetime to do this job, to help workers, and in the process build up a better country.”
Teamsters represent close to 125,000 workers across Canada across multiple industries.
