Laval, May 25, 2010 — The auction, organized by the Teamsters Québec Women’s Caucus, raised $8,000 that will be donated to the fight against breast cancer. This sum was raised during the Joint Council 91’s seminar held on May 17, 18 and 19, 2010.

Union representatives of Québec-based Teamsters local unions generously participated and those who have family or friends fighting this terrible disease made very moving testimonies.

Several items were put up for auction, including a painting by Alain Lacroix, Teamsters Local Union 1999 Union Representative, and a photo taken by Martin Savoie, Legal Counsel for Joint Council 91.

“Our Brothers and Sisters demonstrated an exceptional level of generosity,” said with great satisfaction Alain DeGrandpré, President of Teamsters Québec. “The fight against breast cancer is a cause that is dear to all of us, because we all personally know people – women and men alike – who are fighting this terrible disease.”

In 2009, estimates indicated that 22,700 Canadian women would be diagnosed with breast cancer. On average, that works out to 436 diagnoses each and every week.

The amount will be handed over to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation on October 3, during the Run for the Cure at Parc Maisonneuve in Montréal.

The auction was organized by Brigitte Sottile, President of Teamsters Québec Women’s Caucus. Mrs. Sottile is also the Director of Teamsters Canada’s Education Department.
