The Motor Coach Operators have been on strike since 12:00 noon, Saturday September 29th. Legal Picket lines are located in Sudbury, Timmins, and North Bay.

From 1992 to 1997, the Motor Coach Operators endured five consecutive years of 0% wage increases.

In 1998 mileage rates were further cut by another 4%.

In 2000 starting wages were cut by 20% and a five year step rate was introduced.

In 1997, ONTC MANAGEMENT was given a 4 ½% cash bonus, AND a 4 ½ % wage increase IN ONE YEAR! The President thought this management only bonus and raise was “fair” and “fiscally prudent”.

In 1997 the Bus Services had a$297,000.00 PROFIT in Operations.

MANAGEMENT WAGES ARE UP

BETWEEN 1996 AND 2006 THE ONTC PRESIDENTS SALARY INCREASED BY 34% IN 2005 THE PRESIDENT’S WAGE IS REPORTED AS $172,610.84

ONTC HAS NOT CONFIRMED, BUT WE UNDERSTAND THAT MANAGEMENT WAGES ARE PRESENTLY INCREASING BETWEEN 3% AND 7% PER YEAR.

SOME EXAMPLES OF DRIVERS WAGES AND THE EFFECTS OF THE CUTS

BETWEEN 1992 AND 2007 THE COACH OPERATORS WAGES ON THE SUDBURY TO TORONTO RUN INCREASED BY ONLY 4.2% IN THESE 15 YEARS!!

BETWEEN 1992 AND 2007 THE COACH OPERATORS WAGES ON THE SUDBURY TO TIMMINS RUN ARE DOWN 2.5 % IN THESE 15 YEARS!!

A NEW DRIVER TODAY IS PAID 22.5% LESS THAN A NEW DRIVER IN 1992 ON THE SUDBURY TO TIMMINS RUN!!

AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER ON THE NORTH BAY TO CASINO RAMA CHARTER IS PAID 14.3% LESS NOW THAT HE OR SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN 1992 AND A NEW DRIVER ON THIS CHARTER IS PAID ABOUT 31% LESS NOW THAN THEY WOULD HAVE EARNED IN 1992.

IS THAT FAIR?

WE DON’T THINK SO!

In 2006 the Bus Services had a$930,000.00 PROFIT in Operations.
