Bus drivers at the Charlotte (North Carolina) Area Transit System (CATS) voted by a huge margin to join Teamsters Local 71 on December 2.

The workers, who were dissatisfied with inadequate representation by the unaffiliated United Transportation Union (UTU), voted 372 for the Teamsters, 40 for the UTU and five for "no union."

"This election shows that workers want a strong voice in the workplace," said Teamsters Local 71 President Ted Russell. "Joining the Teamsters will give these workers their strongest voice ever."

The bus drivers in Charlotte join a growing list of workers who, dissatisfied with the UTU, choose to join the Teamsters or the IBT/BLE Rail Operating Employees Council.
