Workers vote 29-2 to ratify new agreement

Ottawa, December 14, 2025 – Teamsters Local Union 647 has won a new agreement with Gate Gourmet, ending a strike that lasted just over 13 hours.

The new 3-year agreement includes at least 10% in wage increases, and guarantees a pathway to at least $20 per hour for all workers. Workers also won scheduling improvements, guaranteeing more workers full time work, as well as pension improvements and more paramedical coverage.

“This shows the power of a union and the power of a strike. Our members stood together and made it clear that they deserve fair wages and respect for the work they do every day. They are extremely please with the gains we’ve achieved. Everyone is looking forward to getting back to work and serving Ottawa’s flying public,” said Martin Cerqua, the president of Teamsters Local Union 647.

Workers at Gate Gourmet cook, package, and deliver in-flight meals, beverages, and supplies for departing flights at Ottawa Airport.

As a result of the quick agreement, flights are expected to leave fully stocked this week in Ottawa, with no delays attributable to catering.

Teamsters Local Union 647 represents approximately 3,000 food industry workers across Ontario. Teamsters Canada represents 135,000 members.
