Laval, 28 ao\u00fbt 2018 \u2014 Le texte suivant est une d\u00e9claration du pr\u00e9sident de Teamsters Canada, Fran\u00e7ois Laporte, concernant l\u2019entente de principe bilat\u00e9rale entre les \u00c9tats-Unis et le Mexique en vue de la modernisation de l\u2019Accord de libre-\u00e9change nord-am\u00e9ricain (AL\u00c9NA) :<\/p>\n

\u00ab Teamsters Canada est heureux du retour du Canada \u00e0 la table de n\u00e9gociation \u00e0 la suite de l\u2019entente \u00e0 l\u2019amiable intervenue entre les \u00c9tats-Unis et le Mexique. Les d\u00e9tails de cette entente devront \u00eatre soigneusement \u00e9tudi\u00e9s dans la foul\u00e9e de la reprise des n\u00e9gociations entre le Canada et les \u00c9tats-Unis qui auront pour objectif ultime d\u2019obtenir un accord entre les trois partenaires de l\u2019AL\u00c9NA.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Le Canada et les \u00c9tats-Unis sont l’un pour l\u2019autre les partenaires \u00e9conomiques les plus importants \u00e0 l\u2019exportation, pas la Chine et le Mexique. Les \u00c9tats-Unis b\u00e9n\u00e9ficient d\u2019un exc\u00e9dent commercial de 8,4 milliards de dollars am\u00e9ricains avec le Canada. Des millions d\u2019emplois des deux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de la fronti\u00e8re, notamment 5000 Teamsters oeuvrant dans l\u2019industrie laiti\u00e8re, d\u00e9pendent d\u2019une relation commerciale stable entre les deux pays.<\/p>\n

\u00ab L\u2019industrie laiti\u00e8re repr\u00e9sente moins de 0,5 % des \u00e9changes commerciaux entre nos deux pays. Les \u00c9tats-Unis jouissent d\u2019un exc\u00e9dant commercial de 518 millions de dollars am\u00e9ricains avec le Canada depuis 2017. En fait, le Canada ach\u00e8te aux Am\u00e9ricains une valeur cinq fois sup\u00e9rieure en produits laitiers; par cons\u00e9quent, nos exportations dans ce secteur sont minimes.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Nous souhaitons aussi que les parties continuent \u00e0 discuter des clauses en mati\u00e8re de droit du travail, tel que propos\u00e9 par les n\u00e9gociateurs canadiens, puisque celles-ci devront \u00eatre ex\u00e9cutoires.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Entre-temps, nous allons continuer \u00e0 travailler en \u00e9troite collaboration avec la Fraternit\u00e9 internationale des Teamsters en vue de conclure une entente tripartite de l\u2019AL\u00c9NA qui sera profitable pour tous les travailleurs et toutes les travailleuses. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Le syndicat des Teamsters repr\u00e9sente les int\u00e9r\u00eats de pr\u00e8s de 125 000 travailleuses et travailleurs au Canada. Teamsters Canada est affili\u00e9 \u00e0 la Fraternit\u00e9 internationale des Teamsters, dont l\u2019effectif syndical est de 1,4 million de membres en Am\u00e9rique du Nord.<\/em><\/p>\n
