New Contract at Kingsway Bulk Division

Workers at Kingsway Bulk voted to ratify a new 5-year collective agreement yesterday. Some 80% of members approved the new contract, which will provide rate-paid drivers a 2% rate increase per year. Hourly drivers will receive a salary adjustment the first year, as well as a 2% increase in subsequent years.

Teamsters Save Jobs at Loomis

News of the Drummondville terminal’s closure was extremely troubling for the owner-operators who work there and who are members of Teamsters Local Union 931. After discussions, the twelve jobs will be maintained and some of the drivers’ routes will instead be transferred to Trois-Rivières, Sherbrooke.

FedEx Freight Drivers Join Teamsters

Teamsters Local Union 931 has filed a request for union certification on behalf of approximately 30 owner operators at FedEx Freight. The Montréal-based workers make deliveries and drive semi-trucks for a living.

Tablet Computers Are Putting Demix Drivers’ Lives at Risk

Teamsters will meet this month with managers at cement company Demix to demand that the “Optimizer” tablet computers that were installed on board its trucks be deactivated. The tabs are being used to send and receive messages while the vehicle is moving.
